The philosophy and methodology of LLC
evolved from Dr. Gibson’s experiences from almost 28 years of
experience working with children and families in public and private
schools. Dr. Gibson has owned two schools prior to LLC and developed
a fourth school, Clay Academy, for Bishop T.D. Jakes in Dallas,
Texas. She taught courses at Texas A&M University beginning in 1991
that specialized in reading, assessment, and behavioral management
until May 2001. Dr. Gibson works with the Texas Education Agency,
Statewide Initiatives, and the Educational Service Centers in Texas as
a trainer and author of training materials.
The
philosophy at LLC is simple. We use “what works with kids” and fully
understand the need for flexibility in expectations and performance,
and the need for systematic order in the environments for young
children. Just like adults, they like to know what is expected of
them. Also, they need and want consistent follow through. That is
“fairness” at this age.

Reducing the stress for the unknown and allowing choices in the
environment that children CAN make is the key to the supportive
environment they feel and see when arriving at LLC. Visitors are
amazed that we have no discipline rules posted, nor “card” system for
behavior. There is no need. Our rotation system keeps children
actively involved, moving, talking, planning, and participating. They
are fully informed and in control of themselves. The children make
choices all day long. We control the choices in the environment, the
children control themselves within the environment. They are
continually in proactive, preventative, success-mode.
We believe in personal communication with
the children, parents, and each other. Our parents are informed with
two newsletters and a monthly calendar. We speak daily with most
parents and have email and telephone access to us always. The
newsletters and calendar are posted on our website and sent home as
paper copies each month. Working together as a team has created our
success for our staff, children and their families. You are welcome
to come and enjoy “what works with kids” at LLC!

The staff is critical to the success at
LLC. We develop personal and long-lasting relationships with our
LLC children and families. Often we share many childrearing years
with our families providing care for siblings. We honor parents’
trust and acknowledge the important role we share with you in the
lives of your children and we work diligently to provide the best
early educational experiences possible.
Amie
McCoy, Owner/President
Ms. McCoy and
her husband George purchased Longmire Learning Center in 2008.
She received her Masters in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M
University where she first heard about Dr. Gibson and Longmire
Learning Center and was eager to become part of such a successful
educational environment. She welcomes the parents to become
involved in their child’s education and school environment. Her
son Jaxson currently attends LLC so she knows first-hand the kind
of quality early education that children are receiving.
Linda
Thompson, Director
Ms. Linda
Thompson and Dr. Gibson became a teaching team more than 25 years
ago. They quickly became known in the Bryan Independent School
District for their successful achievements working with young
children at risk. When Dr. Gibson opened her first school in
1984, she recruited Ms. Linda to teach classes and help direct
activities. Ms. Linda has been teaching and training or managing
staff with Dr. Gibson for many years. Today Linda is the very
competent and experienced Director of Longmire Learning Center.
Ms. Linda has twin girls who grew up in Longmire and worked there
during college. Monica and Monique graduated from Texas A&M
University with honors in May 2008.
Dr.
Vicki L. Gibson, Ph.D., Curriculum Director
Dr. Gibson
began teaching kindergarten in 1975 for Bryan Independent School
District. In 1978, she became a learning disability specialist for
Bryan ISD and continued her work with children at risk for
academic and behavioral challenges. Dr. Gibson completed her
Doctoral degree at Texas A&M University in Educational Psychology
and taught in that department for 10 years. Dr. Gibson opened her
first private preschool, The Education Station, in 1984 and a
second campus, Collier Campus, Inc., in 1987. In 1996, she built
Longmire Learning Center in College Station, Texas. Dr. Gibson
developed the curriculum at LLC, We Can Early Childhood
Curriculum. Currently Dr. Gibson continues to advise LLC and
she is an author and national consultant for the MacMillan McGraw
Hill Reading Program, Treasures, and for McGraw Hill Higher
Education, authoring a college text for teacher training in 2008,
entitled Differentiated Instruction: Grouping for Success.
